Why Do People Install Window Privacy Screens?
(Note: Our Inspo Gallery Is At The Bottom Of This Page.)
3 Main Reasons Are:

1. Privacy Without Blocking Light
Privacy screens allow natural light and airflow while preventing people from looking into your home. This is especially useful for street facing windows or homes in close proximity to neighbours.
2. Improved Security
Aluminium privacy screens add an extra barrier to break ins making it harder for thieves to get and out of windows.

3. Sun and Heat Reduction
Privacy screens block a portion of UV rays and heat by shading the windows. This reduces indoor temperatures and lowers air conditioning costs, making them an energy-efficient solution.
Why Aluminium Privacy Screens

Unlike solid fences or glass panels, aluminium privacy screens with flat or louvered slats allow you to control privacy, airflow, and sunlight while maintaining a stylish, modern look.

By blocking direct sunlight in summer and allowing warmth in winter (if properly positioned), awnings contribute to better thermal comfort, which can increase a home’s energy rating.

Unlike plastic or timber options, aluminium screens come in a range of Colorbond® colours, allowing you to seamlessly match them to your home’s scheme.

Aluminium is stronger than PVC or timber, making it a more secure option that adds an extra layer of protection against intruders while maintaining privacy from nosy neighbours.
How To Choose The Right Window Privacy Screens For Your Home
Selecting the right privacy screen depends on your needs, location, and installation method. Follow these steps to find the best option:

1. Consider Your Needs
Full Privacy? Fixed slat screens have 20mm gaps between slats that allow you to see out but not neighbours in.
Need More Light & Airflow? Louvered window privacy screens allow you to look down through wider gaps and allow more ventilation.
Outdoor Separation? Window privacy screens attached to posts can be mounted in gardens or made to be freestanding on patios or balconies.
2. Determine how you will mount the screen.
Fixed to a Wall or Window Frame? Ideal for windows, balconies, or patios needing a seamless look.
Bolted to the House? If you are going into masonry or bricks chemset or dyna bolts are good options.
Attached To Posts? Think about dyna bolting a 3rd party supplied post to the cement floor or setting the post in concrete in your garden bed.

3. Measure Windows and Screen Placement
The screen will be supplied 130 - 150mm wider than the width of the window measurement you supply. So for example if your window width is 900mm, then the screen will be 1030 mm wide if it's a flat slat or 1050mm if it is a louvre style. It spans over the window.
4. Check Local Regulations
There are 3 levels of regualtion you might need to check. 1st is local council regulations, 2nd is estate development covenants and last is the buildings heritige or strata regulations.

5. Select Materials and Colours
We recommended powder coated aluminium privacy screens for their thermal and recyclable properties. In terms of colours, consider will you be matching existing Colorbond colours or looking for a custom colour scheme. Lighter colours are coolest.

6. Set a Budget and Get Quotes
Depending on you budget you might only do the street facing sides of the house. Consider the height these will be installed and if scaffolding is required. Our Clik'N'Fit range is designed to be done as an easy DIY project.
